Trewane Manor is an ancient Cornish seat, rebuilt in the 18th and early 19th
centuries, but incorporating remains of considerable antiquity. Trewane's history
spans some nine hundred years and is now speculated to have originally served as
a Norman outpost.
The staircase at the rear of the house may have served as a 'prospect tower'
for watching the hunt. Tiny windows in the lower portion of the gate-house seem
to serve a dungeon rumoured to have existed beneath the garden forecourt. Behind,
and to the east of the house are terraces composed of a 17th century archery butt
or bowling green and various formal gardens.
