Kasteel Wijlre, The Netherlands.

There was a manor on this site in 1040 owned by King Henry III. It was described as a castle in 1389, a fortified house and the seat of the free kingdom glory of the Holy Roman Empire, part of the Westphalian Kreits. The Van Wachtendonck family lived in the castle as the lords of Wijlre in the 17th and 18th century until 1794. The current castle was built around 1652 and it was bought and restored in 1981 by the art collectors Jo and Marlies Eyck, who built the museum Hedge House as a separate art gallery within the garden in 2001 .

Daylesford, Gloucestershire, (42" x 30").

Daylesford is a Georgian House in Gloucestershire which was remodelled from 1788 to 1793 by Warren Hastings, the former Govenor-General of India, to designs by Samuel Pepys Cockerell, architect to the East India Company, to create a broadly Neoclassical house with some features inspired by Indian architectural styles. Cockerell took the Indian motifs further at Sezincote House, built for his brother Sir Charles Cockerell nearby. It is now home to Lord and Lady Bamford.

Wootton Lodge, Staffordshire (46" x 30").

Wootton Lodge was built about 1611 for Sir Richard Fleetwood Bt (High Sheriff in 1614), possibly by architect Robert Smythson.During the English Civil War the house was held for the Crown and was badly damaged during a Parliamentary siege. It was restored in about 1700 when a flight of balustrade entrance steps was added.

In the 1930s it was for four years the home of Sir Oswald Mosley and his wife Diana Mitford. Exterior shots of Wootton Lodge were used in the 1947 Technicolor film Blanche Fury, which starred Valerie Hobson and Stewart Granger.
